In the High Desert, an air conditioner lasts 10 to 12 years instead of 20.
On The Way Heating & Air repairs, maintains and replaces heating and cooling systems in Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia and across the High Desert. The climate is why most of our calls happen, so it is what we work around.
Why systems fail faster at 3,000 feet
Victorville, Apple Valley and Hesperia sit in the Mojave River basin at roughly 2,800 to 3,500 feet. Clear skies, hard wind-driven dust and a daily temperature swing that coastal equipment never sees. Three things account for most of the equipment failures in this valley.
Attic heat gain
Unventilated attics reach 130 to 150°F in July. Any leak in the ductwork up there bleeds cooling capacity before the air ever reaches a room, and it does it on the hottest day of the year.
Desert dust load
Filters here need changing every 30 to 60 days, not the 90 printed on the box. Windblown sand also cakes the outdoor condenser coil, choking airflow until the system locks out on high pressure.
Thermal cycling
Sustained 100°F-plus running burns out run capacitors and compressors on head pressure. Then sub-freezing mornings cycle a furnace heat exchanger until it cracks, which is a carbon monoxide problem, not just a comfort one.
What we work on
Cooling
Diagnostics and repair on the components that actually fail here first: capacitors, contactors, compressors, dust-fouled condensers and frozen evaporator coils. Full replacements when a system has reached the end of a desert service life.
- Air conditioning repair
- Air conditioning installation
- Air conditioning replacement
- Air conditioning maintenance
- Heat pump repair
- Heat pump installation
Heating
Furnaces and heat pumps that have to carry a home through 15 to 22°F cold snaps, including defrost-cycle faults and the electric backup heat strips that drive winter bills up.
- Heating repair
- Heating installation
- Heating replacement
- Furnace repair
- Furnace installation
Systems and controls
Whole-system replacement and the thermostat work that goes with it, including smart thermostats set up for time-of-use electric rates rather than left on the default schedule.
- HVAC system replacement
- Thermostat installation & replacement
- Smart thermostat installation
Air quality and upkeep
Seasonal maintenance built around the two things that cost systems their life out here: dust and airflow. Filtration and duct work for homes where blowing sand gets in no matter what.
- Indoor air quality solutions
- Air filter replacement
- HVAC preventative maintenance
- HVAC system diagnostics
- Seasonal HVAC tune-ups
Who you are calling
On The Way Heating & Air is the heating and cooling line of On The Way Solutions, a Victorville company. The business was formed in November 2024 and holds an active California Contractors State License Board license in the C20 classification, which is the classification that covers warm-air heating, ventilating and air conditioning work in this state. It is bonded through Western Surety Company.
We are a newer company, and we would rather tell you that than pad the page. What we put in front of you instead is the thing we can actually back up: specific, local, checkable knowledge of what this climate does to equipment, a license number you can look up on the CSLB website in about thirty seconds, and clear explanations with no hidden fees.
We work across the High Desert as a service-area business, which means we come to you rather than running a storefront.

Can new equipment actually lower my summer electric bill?
It can help. Our heating and cooling work is aimed at improving insulation and efficiency so the system runs less to hold the same temperature, which is where the long-term saving comes from on a tiered or time-of-use rate.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. Estimates are free and come with no obligation.
Which towns do you cover?
Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia, Adelanto, Oak Hills, Phelan, Piñon Hills and Barstow, plus Spring Valley Lake, Helendale, Lucerne Valley and El Mirage. See where we work for what the job looks like in each.
Heating and cooling across the High Desert
We are based in Victorville and work the High Desert from the Cajon Pass out to Barstow. Elevation changes the job more than most people expect: the low end of the valley is an air-conditioning problem, the high end is a heating one.
Victorville
Home base, at about 2,800 feet. Long cooling seasons, attics well past 130°F in July, and outdoor condensers caked with wind-blown dust are the bulk of the calls.
Apple Valley
Open ground and steady wind mean dirty condenser coils and filters that clog fast. Homes from Spring Valley Lake to the east end run their air conditioning hard all summer.
Hesperia
A little higher than Victorville, so the furnace gets more use. Many systems here date from the 1980s and ’90s building boom and are well past what this climate allows.
Adelanto
Newer tract homes whose original equipment is now reaching its first major repairs, with open desert wind loading every outdoor unit.
Oak Hills
Roughly 3,500 to 4,000 feet. Cold winter mornings put real hours on the furnace or heat pump, and summer still brings triple digits.
Phelan and Piñon Hills
Above 4,000 feet, where the heating season is the long one. A cracked furnace heat exchanger is a carbon monoxide issue up here, not just a comfort one.
Barstow
Lower and hotter than the Victor Valley, with summers that push past 105°F. The air conditioner is the system that cannot fail, and we cover it from Victorville.
Also serving Spring Valley Lake, Helendale and Silver Lakes, Lucerne Valley and El Mirage.
